Gayatri Saraf is a noted Indian writer and has twelve short story collections in Odia to her credit. A recipient of President’s Award for teaching (2004), and Sahitya Akademi Award (2017) for her book of short stories, Itabhatira Shilpi, she writes stories which carry intimate portraits of people enmeshed in the daily grind of life. The present anthology brings stories, mostly set in western Odisha, of varied length and themes which reflect the writer’s deep compassion and wide sympathy for the troubled and the tormented. Born in Bolangir in 1952, she spent most of her teaching career there and functioned as the Vice-President of Odisha Sahitya Akademi from 2015 to 2018. She now lives in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
